General Support & Advocacy for Older People

  • Age Concern New Zealand  ageconcern.org.nz  First port of call for questions about ageing well; offers befriending/visiting services, elder abuse response, health promotion, and local branches nationwide.
  • Office for Seniors | Te Tari Kaumātua officeforseniors.govt.nz Government agency providing information, research, and resources on ageing in NZ, plus the Better Later Life strategy.
  • Grey Power NZ greypower.co.nz Advocacy group for the 50+ age group; also runs a members' electricity scheme.
  • Eldernet eldernet.co.nz Comprehensive directory of home help, retirement villages, rest homes, and other later-life services.
  • Seniorline  0800 725 463 Free phone and web information service helping older people and whānau weigh up staying at home vs. residential care.
  • Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)  cab.org.nz Free, confidential information and advocacy on almost any topic, including consumer, legal, and budgeting advice.

Falls Prevention & Home Safety

  • Live Stronger for Longer livestronger.org.nz ACC-backed programme with strength and balance classes, home safety advice, and falls-prevention resources for over-65s and their families.
  • ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) acc.co.nz Injury prevention information, including falls statistics and support after an injury.

Carers & Family Support

  • Carers NZ carers.net.nz National information hub for family carers, with respite guidance, self-care resources, and links to support.
  • Carer Support Subsidy (Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora) healthnz.govt.nz  Government subsidy that funds short breaks (respite) for full-time family carers. 

Dementia Support

  • Alzheimers New Zealand alzheimers.org.nz National body with information on symptoms and prevention, an 0800 support line, and local Alzheimers organisations offering education and carer support.

Disability Support

  • CCS Disability Action ccsdisabilityaction.org.nz Support, advocacy, and services for disabled people and their families.
  • Whaikaha – Ministry of Disabled People whaikaha.govt.nz Government agency overseeing disability support services, including Carer Support funding.

Health & Practical Help

  • Healthline 0800 611 116 Free 24/7 health advice line staffed by registered nurses.
  • Healthpoint healthpoint.co.nz Directory of NZ health services, useful for finding local GPs, occupational therapists, and specialists.
  • Work and Income Seniors workandincome.govt.nz Information on NZ Super, entitlements, and the Community Services/SuperGold Card.
  • Needs Assessment and Service Coordination (NASC) Regional agencies that assess eligibility for home support and residential care services.

Social Connection & Community

  • Friendship NZ Social clubs for retired and semi-retired people to stay active and connected.
